Norman Security suite is an Internet Security Software for Windows created by Publisher Norman ASA.
Norman Security Suite Summary
Norman Security Suite is an Internet security suite that is designed to provide an additional layer of security to your Windows system. It has the same objective as other Internet security suites when it comes to malware prevention and ensuring protection when doing things online. However, it claims to be a better choice than most antivirus software.
If you need a security suite installed in your computer to ensure maximum protection and you are considering this software as an option, you need to know the kind of protection that it can give you as well as its other features.
Norman Security Suite Features
Norman Security Suite has all of the features of Norman Antivirus so it can provide real-time protection against malware and you have the option to scan any files in local and removable hard disks for existing threats. Like other security suites, there is a firewall component and an anti-phishing component, which aims to make the Internet browsing experience safer. There are also parental control features in case the computer usage needs to be limited. In addition to the license, Norman offers 5 GB of available space for their online backup service so you can backup files and view them on a mobile device or desktop Internet browser. There is also a Pro version, which adds privacy tools for Internet browsers and stronger protection against intrusions. Norman Security Suite is designed to work with Windows 7 and the upcoming Windows 8 operating system.
Norman Security Suite User Interface
Although Norman Security Suite has gathered a lot of negative reviews that included poor malware protection, the designers did pretty well with the user interface. The interface of Norman Security Suite is basically your average run-of-the-mill security suite interface but it looks good on the eyes. While Norman Security Suite won’t get any awards for design innovation, the interface should be enough for new users to get started. You should be able to access all the basic functions of the program without much problems.
Norman Security Suite Pricing
A Norman Security Suite license costs $59.95 and is valid for one year. You can install this application in up to 3 PCs which should be enough to protect your desktop, laptop, and another device that you use in the home. You can save about $20 if you take the 2-year license or $30 if you take the 3-year license instead of the 1-year license. The Pro version of Norman Security Suite costs $75.95 for 1 year covering 3 PCs as well and you can have similar savings if you decide to go for additional years.
Norman Security Suite Review
The interface of Norman Security Suite is basically your average run-of-the-mill security suite interface. While Norman Security Suite won’t get any awards for design innovation, the interface should be enough for new users to get started. What really makes Norman Security Suite stand out is the antispam filter. In fact, the antispam feature easily beats the antispam features found on other security suites as well as standalone programs that are fully focused with spam protection. It was able to keep nearly 98% of the spam at bay while letting 99% of the personal mail and newsletters through. Plus, the filter is easy to configure and it shouldn’t affect the speed in retrieving the messages.
Unfortunately, all of the other features do not compare very well against the current Internet security suites out there. To start things off, installation was a bit rocky with several boots required and additional installations just to incorporate the other components of the suite like the parental controls and spam filter.
Malware detection capabilities are average at best and it is unable to deal more complicated malware like rootkits. It is more effective in preventing malware and rootkits from entering but the top rated security suites still do better. The firewall, anti-phishing, and parental control features were not all that effective and those downsides aren’t worth the increase in boot time if you have this installed. To sum things up, the price is just too steep for a suite that only has one strong component. It would be better to get a standalone Norman Antispam application if the company decides to develop one.
