AVAST Internet Security is an internet security software created by publisher AVAST Software a.s.

Making Your Computer Safe from Viruses with Avast Internet Security

Avast Internet Security Product Summary

For more than twenty years already, AVAST Software a.s. has been offering both free and commercially available antivirus software. While there is the Avast Free Antivirus 5.0 that gives optimum virus protection, users demanding full security and are very conscious of computer safety  issues may appreciate the Avast Internet Security 5.0 with its own firewall and anti=Spam capabilities.  With the combination of firewall, antivirus, antispam, antispyware and firewall features, the latest release of Avast Internet Security may be recommended.  But are you willing to pay the price?

Avast Internet Security Features

What most users of the Avast Internet Security may find as its best feature is its small file size at 43 MB.  This suite, which boasts of a lot of features, requires only a small disk space.  Installation time is also fast, and with the required reboot, would only need five minutes at the maximum.

Because of its personal firewall feature, you will be asked during installation to specify your network’s zone.  You get to choose whether you are working on a Home zone, a Work zone, or a Public zone.  The firewall permits all activity in the network if you chose Home, without any restrictions. If you chose the Work zone, controls by the firewall includes exact levels of access to network and Internet for every program. If you chose the Public zone, the firewall places a block on all communications incoming and prohibits all access by the network to any program that does not have any application rules already defined.  That means that, for example, you are in a non-secure network like an Internet café, you can till receive connections that are incoming, but you will not allowed to use some programs like instant messaging applications.

Avast Internet Security User Interface

As with other internet security suites, you will not really have that much interaction with the Avast Internet Security's user interface after installation.  That is of course, unless it detects a possible security threat to your computer.  Otherwise, there is a main window that shows the overall status of the product.  There is a big button with that reads "Fix Now" which you can click on to rectify any problem. Every component feed will show its status on the screen’s status indicator. You may personalize it by choosing to let it ignore some elements.

When the program is running, which should be anytime your computer is on, you may hear voices that may say things like "Virus database has been updated." Version 5.0 allows you to replace the voice with a chime, or mute any alerts altogether.

Avast Internet Security Software Review

The Avast Internet Security software’s advantages include its small size, fast installation process, a hard-working firewall and antispam that does not need to be configured and but can be very specific.  It also has multiple "shields" that acts to stop attacks by malware programs.

On the not so positive, overall system performance may drag a bit when this program is in use.  Although it employs a lot of shields to block malware, there are still other programs that have proven to be more effective.  Avast Internet Security allows its users to have antivirus, antispam protection and a firewall all in one program, which can still be considered basic, but also displays power.

I am really happy with the free version of Avast Internet Security. It does its job, and I hardly know it's there. I've tried others in the past, and with the others you are constantly getting pop-ups from them trying to get you to upgrade or something. Avast doesn't do that. Plus, it really does work!

Avast Internet security is an efficient security software. Sometimes when I right-click on a file and scan it, the results are shown almost instantly. I don’t think any other security can do that. I was previously using Norton but it used to slow down my computer. The machine is not that old but the configuration is nothing to brag about. So, I needed something that works well and doesn’t need a lot of resources to run. I perform regular scans and I haven’t faced any virus related issues since the time I am using it.

I really like its interface. It’s very crisp and user-friendly. The price is affordable as well.
