Lavasoft Digital Lock Summary

Lavasoft Digital Lock is one of the tools composing Lavasoft’s own data security line of products. It is a powerful data protector program that can perform industry-standard encryption and decryption of files of different types. The product is light at 5.81MB, quickly and easily installs, and provides users with trustworthy data protection that is difficult to undermine. Additionally, it has received high ratings from CNET, Softpedia, and other reviewing bodies, but the only issue with it is its slightly high price of $29.95 for a one-year license but it comes down to if you need an encryption software.

Lavasoft Digital Lock Features

Lavasoft Digital Lock is a powerful data-protection program that can protect any kind of file thrown at it. It utilizes the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) invented by Joan Daemen and Vincent Rijmen; AES is an encryption system that uses the symmetric block cipher algorithm with block size of 128 bits and key sizes of 128, 192, and 256 bits. Digital Lock uses four of the most powerful AES encryption types, such as Rijindael, Blowfish, Twofish, and SafeIT. With these encryption types, you are sure that the security of your sensitive data is never compromised.

Lavasoft Digital Lock can be used to protect data stored on your computer or sent over the Internet. Especially if you are working with highly sensitive data, this product can definitely heighten the security barrier you have within your system. Files sent over the Internet can never be opened without the right password designated during the encryption process. This is possible with the self extraction feature of the program, wherein the encrypted file received online becomes an executable that can only be opened using the right password. Digital Lock also allows multi-encryption, which means that you can subject a file through more than one encryption process to prevent even sophisticated decryption programs to access the stored data.

Lavasoft Digital Lock also gives you a choice on what you want to do with the original file. The program allows you to keep or delete the original file once the encryption is performed. This lets you enhance the security of your data because you do not have to keep an extra file aside from the encrypted one.  Lastly, operation is easier because of the drag-and-drop functionality.

Lavasoft Digital Lock User Interface

Lavasoft Digital Lock has a simple and easy-to-learn interface. The menu is located on the left side, which contains three buttons, each for encryption, decryption, and self extraction. Below are some miscellaneous buttons where you can access the settings for the program, the updates, and the subscription. The bottommost portion is for the exit button.

Performing an encryption operation is very easy. You just have to choose the encryption button on the left side, click a button to browse files you want to encrypt or drag-and-drop files on the folder icon, and click “encrypt files.” The same operation works when decrypting a file; find the file and hit the “decrypt files” button. After every encryption, you have the option to delete the original file or leave it from its location.

Lavasoft Digital Lock Review

Lavasoft Digital Lock is a good investment if you have a lot of sensitive data to protect in your system or when you send files online. It uses sophisticated encryption algorithms that will never compromise the security of your data. However, the price may be too high for such a product if you will not be using it all the time. Otherwise, just find a free folder hider or password-protect program that also does the job of protecting your sensitive data. But if you want encryption more than just hiding or password-protecting your files, this product is surely worth a try.
