Product summary of Eset's NOD32 Antivirus
ESET NOD32 Antivirus is an antivirus package developed by ESET, an IT security company that is headquartered in Slovakia. ESET NOD32 Antivirus can run on the following operating systems, Microsoft Windows, FreeBSD, Linux, Windows Mobile platform, Novell NetWare, and Solaris. NOD32 was developed during the early 1990s, when viruses were increasing and computers were at risk of getting infected. The acronym NOD means "Nemocnica na Okraji Disku," which means "hospital at the edge of the disk." This was a pun of a medical drama series in Czechoslovakia entitled "Nemocnica na okraji mesta," or "hospital at the edge of the city".
Features of NOD32 Antivirus
What's great about ESET NOD32 Antivirus is that it offers both speed and effectiveness. It uses fewer resources than other antivirus packages, with a code that is very efficiently written. ESET NOD32 offers several layers of protection, which includes antivirus protection, rootkit scanner, antispyware protection, and email scanning. This way, users will be protected from threats coming from the Internet and risks that are growing on their files. The email scanner even integrates directly and easily into MS Outlook or other standard POP3 email clients. One feature that the ESET NOD32 Antivirus lacks, however, is the parental control option. Without this feature, parents can't control and block sites that they don't want their children to access. Users will be glad to know, however, that ESET NOD32 is among the few antivirus software in the market that still supports operating systems such as DOS, Windows 95 and 98, as well as Windows Vista and XP.
NOD32 Antivirus Ease of use
When it comes to usability, ESET NOD32 Antivirus ranks high on the scale. It is very simple to use, requiring almost no configuration. For those who wish to tweak the controls of their antivirus software, ESET NOD32 also has simple toggles and configuration options for enabling and disabling functions. For those who are not tech savvy, installing this software and forgetting about it will work just as fine this. ESET NOD32 Antivirus can detect threats even when left at its default setting.
NOD32 Antivirus Effectiveness
Aside from ease of use, ESET NOD32 Antivirus software is also among the most effective in the market. Independent tests have shown that NOD32 removed approximately 98% of virus threats that it encountered. Aside from that, this software is certified by all the major independent testing laboratories throughout the world.
NOD32 Antivirus Updates and tech support
The virus signatures of ESET NOD32 are updated once a day. In case there is an attack, ESET can still "push" updates to the computer. Other than this, ESET also has a proactive, highly effective heuristic engine, which is said to recognize malicious codes immediately.
With its context-sensitive, extensive help files, ESET NOD32 provides users with great technical support. There is also a thorough PDF file manual that is available for download from the Internet, and online FAQs can be found on the Web. All in all, ESET NOD32 Antivirus offers users with good value for money. It has excellent virus detection capabilities, fast scanning speed, and is light on computer resources.

Small footprint
We switched from Norton to NOD32 when we noticed Norton was causing serious slowness on our computer. NOD32 takes up very little real estate on the hard drive, and has a history of catching every virus that comes along. You might expect to pay premium prices for quality this excellent, but you would be pleasantly surprised. The price is quite reasonable, and they offer multi-year licenses as well, so you don’t have to think about it as often. It updates itself automatically in the background, and we did not notice any slowness on the computer even during updates.
The only downside we found was the difficulty in getting in touch with a human for support. Once you get through, the support is excellent. I highly recommend NOD32 if you are purchasing an antivirus.
ESET NOD32 is too good!
I used ESET NOD32 for years after a friend told me that it was the best antivirus program out there. I downloaded the free month trial and had to agree that it was very good. I decided to keep it and bought the subscription.
After using it for awhile I can tell you that it will definitely protect you from whatever is out there. There is such a thing as being too good though. I started to find that ESET NOD32 was actually blacklisting websites I visited and I would have to go into the settings and allow an exception what seemed like every five minutes, but was at least a few times a week. This started to get annoying so I have switched to a different program.
No nod32 antivirus slow-down
I installed the 3rd version of the Eset NOD32 Antivirus and was very happy with the performance that I had high hopes for the 4th release. Alas, I was not disappointed. The security features still pack a punch without slowing down my system. The advanced diagnostic tools also worked for me. Some features found in other antivirus software like anti-phishing and IM protection are not present. Moreover, I found other users saying the interface can be a bit technical, but I've gotten used to it with the prior versions that I like it a lot.
I have tried other antivirus software like kaspersky and trend micro and Nod32 is as good as them.
