Imagine going to a store and buying products using your credit card, in fact, this scene is so common place and so basic that you probably wouldn’t even think about it. You probably wouldn’t even have much problems imagining it. It happens everyday. It happens everywhere. Well, just to highlight the dangers posed by hacking to credit card holders data privacy, Target stores one of the largest retailers in the United States got hacked. Hackers got a hold of millions of credit card records. These records can be used to make unauthorized sales. Serious problem. This data breach was affected Target shoppers that visited Target stores in between November 27 and December 15. While this may seem like a small window of time, this is the peak shopping period. So, tons of people got affected.
Well, to make up with its otherwise upset costumer base, Target is offering a 10% discount to all shoppers who were affected, if they go back to Target stores to shop come this weekend. We suspect that this is too little too late because law suits are already being filed and regardless how those lawsuits come out one thing is for certain. Lawyers will come out the winners. Why? Usually such lawsuits are class actions, the people affected will probably only get cents on the dollar. The real winners are the law firms that charge a hand some fees for bringing the suit in the first place.
