It looks like Facebook’s been busy in the tech partnership and business development spheres. Not only has it partnered with Apple for deeper integration of its service features within Apple’s iOS 6 and Mountain Lion, it is now tapping into the massive reach of de facto blogging standard software, WordPress. See the pattern? Facebook’s tapping entities that have a huge installed base. Apple has 365 million total devices running its OS. WordPress is far and away the most installed and implemented blogging software on the Internet. By tapping into this huge installed base of blog webmasters, Facebook is making sure its services’ reach extends even deeper and further than they currently do. Why the sense of urgency? Well, if you have search giant Google painting a target on your back with Google Plus, you’d become focused very quickly too.
Facebook’s plugin is not just a great strategic move for the Menlo Park social networking company, it also offers a great source of traffic opportunities for WordPress bloggers. As we have discussed here in Ereviewguide.com before, Facebook and social networking in general offer explosive traffic growth for content sites because trusted “friends” share content within their spheres of influence. Members of that sphere also have their own sphere and so on and so forth. All it takes is one particularly interesting and compelling piece of content until a massive chain reaction takes place and you end up with a huge spike in traffic.
What does the plugin offer? Upon the publication of a post, the plugin allows your post to appear on your FB timeline and on the FB pages you manage. This is not exactly ground-breaking since there are other plugins that already do this. What is eye opening about the new plugin is that if you mention the name of your FB friends or their pages, your post appears on their timelines. Moreover, the plugin also allows readers to see their friends’ like and comment activities on the site. The plugin also makes the recommendation engine more personalized. One other exciting feature is that the plugin supposrts SEO so the comments your users post on your blog can be indexed quickly by search engines. This translates to possible more traffic.
