Diablo 3 is opening up its servers to a free open public beta. This means that you don’t have to have an invitation in order to play any one of the game’s six classes of cool characters: demon hunters, monks, wizards, witch doctors, barbarians, and warlocks. You can now see for yourself what the big deal is all about. As you probably already know, this game is several years in the making and has a huge following. Moreover, it also features a market system that uses real money. The public beta starts on April 20 12:01 pm and runs all the way to 10 am April 23. This should be more than enough time for hardcore gamers to sink their teeth into this juicy morsel of an adventure game. Indeed, many have been waiting impatiently for the game to be released. It was originally slated to ship in early April but it got pushed back to May 15. The title also underwent several patches and updates as beta testers turned in their results and game designers tweaked the game’s elements to make sure the game is well-balanced. Now, the general public takes its turn in providing important beta information to the game’s developer, Blizzard, in its final beta push to make sure the game is ready for prime time.
What are the down sides? Well, if you get hooked, and there is a high chance of that since this is a Blizzard game after all, you have to wait a grueling two weeks until May 15 before you can finally get your mitts on the released version of the game. Also, whatever character data and level you accumulate in the beta are wiped out at the end of the beta. Finally, you can only level up to level 13. While this is more challenging than it sounds since Blizzard said that it had built a system that increases in difficulty as you increase in level, this may seem like too low of a ceiling for hardcore gamers who won’t hesitate to “camp” this game.
