Craigslist-like startup Antengo launches this week along with other startups backed by San Diego-based tech incubator EvoNexus. The new app is a redesigned marketplace for mobile devices that provides listings of real-time local classifieds.
Antengo aims to make it easier for users to find resources they need everyday in their mobile devices such as discovering great deals for tickets to local events, finding freelance work, or buying and selling unused gadgets. Users can take advantage of posting, browsing and answering postings in real-time.
Users can download the application for free and instantaneously browse listings through the keyword search area without the need to log in. Real-time results are then shown in the “splash page.” A sign up requirement comes in, in order for a user to post a listing. Options for signing up include Twitter and Facebook authentication.
Once you’ve created an account, you can easily browse and select from the various categories then provide a photo of your item plus the cost and address then post it. The listing is published immediately to the marketplace. Buyers can search your listing based on proximity, time published, photos, or descriptions.
Among the features of Antengo are options for filters applicable to buyers and sellers as well as searching through categories. They can also directly message one another as well as make in-app calls.
The startup has a pared-down design. It centralizes on providing users with their immediate and specific needs. It also makes it easier for people to connect with other users in their locality that offer various products and services.
Mobile shopping comes second to social media under the swiftly growing trends in the mobile industry as presented by comScore in its review for the 2010 mobile year. This entails the sufficient demand in the market for startups like Antengo. However, major competitors in the field of classifieds like Craigslist and eBay make the game difficult for newcomers in the market.
An advantage for Antengo is that larger players are still highly reliant on data from the Web. This allows it to make the most out of the mobile user experience factor. The startup’s edge is offering an incorporated platform model that combines mobile classifieds with various other offerings such as events under “live event marketplaces”.
