Both the Avast Pro Antivirus and Avast Internet Security are already on their 6th versions, which may mean they have acquired a loyal following among computer owners who want to make sure their units are free of any destructive programs and viruses. After all, Avast Software, the programs’ manufacturer, was formerly known as ALWIL Software, and have been making effective anti-virus software for more than twenty years.
The economy of these two programs on resource use, as well as their commendable rates in detection and excellent malware protection make them good buys, especially for users who actually want to make their antivirus and internet security programs as personalized as possible with some tweaking on various settings.
With the latest versions of these two software also come added, as well as enhanced features. The two most obvious changes in Avast Version 6 include:
Enhancement of the AutoSandbox option: Avast Pro has already featured this option in its earlier release. However, the previous releases only included an option that allows you to surf the internet and run various applications in a contained setting, the Sandbox, which should not have any effect on the rest of your system. In Version 6, Avast takes the option further by allowing you to make the feature automatic. This means you can activate auto-sandboxing, where you can run programs you are suspicious of in a sandbox automatically.
An added WebRep toolbar: ‘WebRep’ is a toolbar for browsers, largely comparable to the previous Web of Trust or WoT feature in Avast’s previous versions. It is a plug-in for Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers that inform you of the reputation score of the site you are visiting. This rating is derived from the feedback gathered from the community, with input from the researchers of Avast.
In the new Avast 6 Pro edition, a SafeZone’ option has also been added. This feature offers you a special and protected virtual area for conducting classified transactions. On the other hand, other features such as ‘Site Blocking’ and ‘Script Shield’, which used to be only available in the Pro version, are now incorporated in the latest Avast Free releases.
