Should You Try Adobe Soundbooth?
Adobe Soundbooth Product Summary
The Soundbooth audio editing program may not be something that people would relate to as an Adobe product. After all, Adobe is more associated with programs that make publishing and document viewing more convenient. But this reputation has not stopped Adobe from including the Adobe Soundbooth in their programs bundles, which include the Creative Suite 5 Production Premium and Master Collection. With this 5th release, there are a few tweaks that you’ll find in the Soundbooth when you compare it to its predecessors, but then you’ll realize that the application still has a long way to go in being one of the better audio editing programs in the market. This may be fine though as most people have it bundled in the CS collection, which includes programs that have proven to be more useful and improved.
Adobe Soundbooth Features
For those not familiar with the program at all, Soundbooth is an audio editor capable of handling multi-tracks and composed of a number of panels to edit audio and making changes to them by adding effects, scores, markers, and other components. The whole feel and design of the Soundbooth are reflective of the look of other applications of the Creative Suite, so you won’t feel lost in using it.
The features tagged as “new” in this release are few and simple. One of them is a convenient way of resizing the track displays in Multitrack View, to be done by dragging track dividers. This will enable you to concentrate on editing one track by making its view larger. The Resource Central provided by Adobe also adds in new sound effects which now total to 6,000 and soundtracks now totaling to 130. If you have successfully downloaded sounds all effects or soundtracks from Resource Central, you can drag them directly from the Resource Central tab to the project you’d like to put them in.
Adobe Soundbooth User Interface
The user interface of the Soundbooth remains the same as with its previous versions, allowing users familiar with the earlier releases to use the program right away. The interface is user-friendly even from those with no or little prior experience in editing audio material. The program has a sizeable collection of effects and noise filtering features accessible through its simple-to-use tabs. Those in need of canned background music will have the Soundbooth’s ready-to-use scores handy. The program’s volume matching feature which aims to balance the volume among multiple sources can easily be found in the front page of the interface.
Adobe Soundbooth Software Review
To sum it up, the Adobe Soundbooth has an interface similar to other programs included in the CS5, which makes it approachable even for those who are not that versed in audio editing. It has a good collection of sounds and effects, and its noise filtering feature is also recommended.
As with the previous releases, it still takes time to save your project. Moreover, if you are anticipating for major improvements and additional features, you may find yourself shortchanged as there are only few differences between the new version and the previous ones.
