Via Talk is a VoIP Service with Voice over Internet Protocol plans and communication solutions for Small Business, Home Business or Personal Use by Publisher ViaTalk, Inc.

Via Talk Summary

Via Talk is one of the leading VoIP services available in the market. Basically, it is an Internet phone that allows you to call landlines, cell phones and computers. A VoIP phone basically replaces traditional landline phones because it connects to the Internet.

Because the plan options are much cheaper than those offered by mobile phone providers, they are too hard to pass up. This is also why it has gathered so much attention in the market. This review will help you understand what Via Talk is about, what it offers, its features and other things that you may want to know.

Via Talk Features

Via Talk offers features like Voicemail and call detail options such as enhanced voicemail, voicemail notification via email and voicemail notification via text message. Aside from these, it also offers privacy and security settings such as incoming call routing, outgoing call routing and anonymous call routing. Its call control settings include custom incoming caller ID, Internet forwarding, call forwarding, call waiting, call hunt and speed dial. The advanced features include call record, 3-way calling, call return, second phone line and call broadcasting.

To summarize, Via Talk offers 41 call features and 5 additional features. Not bad for almost half of what you usually pay your mobile phone provider every month.

Via Talk Pricing

As of January 2012, they have an ongoing promo that offers $8.47/month for the first three months, and then $16.95 for the following months. They require no contract, no prepayment, no cancellation fee and no setup fee, but it does not include free international calls just like the regular unlimited plan that they offer.

Via Talk has several plans offered, but the regular rate of an unlimited plan is $16.95 per month. If you do not like monthly payments, you may also opt for the $189 yearly rate. Plans usually include “free international calls”, which includes 60 minutes of calls to selected international destinations. However, these are all subject to change so you need to check the current rates if you plan to subscribe.

Via Talk Customer Support

Via Talk offers several ways for you to contact them. If you need immediate help, you may call them anytime by calling their technical support department. You may also try their live chat option, but this is usually offered for those who do not have an account with them yet. In short, it connects you to the sales department. If you have problems with the service or you simply want to know more about the Via Talk features to maximize your subscription, you may search your questions on their knowledge base directory found in the Via Talk website.

Via Talk Review

What confuses consumers is the “free international calls” that they claim to offer. Subscribers sign up to unlimited plans with “free international calls” only to find out that they are only allowed 60 minutes to selected international destinations. Users suggest that people inquire first rather than just believing the “fine print”.

Local and international calls can be made without any interruptions, although this is not always the case especially with an international call to a cell phone. It is however unfair to judge the service of Via Talk just with a few failed international calls to a mobile phone. Users need to remember that it is also dependent on several factors such as cell phone signal.

The best thing about the Via Talk service is the price. You can actually save around $500 a year because it gives you more options. For many users, they consider it the best VoIP service ever offered. It also beats the traditional landline and mobile phone offers by providing the same service with a minimal fee.

I went for the discounted option because I don't have any need to make international calls. The reduced price at the start does make it a good option compared to a cell, but in the long term I'm not convinced it is worth it.

Via Talk are very good at setting you up and helping out with problems. The trouble is there are just too many hiccups for me. I find calls cut out regularly. At other times the sound quality ranges from just about adequate to poor.

I'd like to see them focus on getting the basics right, instead of pushing all the extra features they offer.
