Skype is a VoIP Service with Voice over Internet Protocol plans and communication solutions for Home and Business users by Publisher Skype Limited.

Skype Summary

Skype is a popular VOIP that has a slightly different features compared to other providers. It is a simple, downloadable software that can be obtained by everybody in order to make calls around the world. Not like other online telephony providers, this program requires users to have computers. The best thing about Skype is that users can download it for free, plus, users can make Skype to Skype calls for free. Toll Free USA numbers can also be reached using the Skype service.

Skype Features

Skype has 17 features that are basically found in other VoIP services. But, unlike other VoIPs, Skype features Video Chat. It also has additional options such as file sharing, conference calls, instant messaging (im) or group im. It also features free Skype to Skype calls, cheap calls (domestic and international) to non-Skype users and more.

Skype is very easy to set up; it is actually one of easiest to install VoIPs. With Skype, there is no need to install additional equipment or experience the hassles that usually go with it. The only thing needed to do with Skype is to download it and install the program into the computer. A microphone or headset is the only required tool in order to make and receive calls. In addition, Skype is compatible with both Windows and Mac so there’s no worrying about the compatibility.

Skype Pricing

Among the many advantages of using Skype is how easy it is to pay for the service. There is a monthly payment plan, and there is a pay as you go scheme. Skype offers unlimited calls to US and Canada for only $2.99 a month. Unlimited calls to North America costs $7.99 a month, while Unlimited World plan costs $13.99 a month. Unlimited World plan is for unlimited calls to over 40 countries.

Monthly plans and prepaid plans are better than pay as you go schemes. Pay as you go is more expensive than monthly plans and it also saves the users the burden of paying bills each time they use Skype to call someone. Payment can be made via PayPal, Moneybookers, Credit Cards, or prepaid Skype cards available at Wal-Mart.

Skype Customer Support

On the Skype website, customers are provided with answers to FAQs. There are also help topics focusing on each service aspect. Questions regarding Payments and Billing, Technical Issues, Products and Features and other topics are answered by glossaries, wikis, and tutorial videos.

Although there are plenty of online information, Skype does not seem to offer customer support via phone. There are email addresses posted at the website, but the email addresses are for general inquiries and not for technical support.

Skype Review

Users love using Skype because of its many features, not to mention its ease of use. It allows users have VoIP calls for free or with a minimum charge. Some experts believe that Skype is not a VoIP but a special peer to peer technology that needs a microphone in order to get interactive.

With Skype, all you need is a PC and an internet connection. Install the program in just a few minutes and you are ready to go. You can use a microphone or headset in order to make calls or go video chatting. It is a great tool for businesses that have offices all around the world. It offers very cheap rates to overseas calls and it also comes in unlimited plans that are surprisingly affordable. Unlimited call rates starts at $2.99 a month.

Although it lacks a decent customer support, Skype is still one of the best VoIPs on the web. It gives clear, audible calls and real time video calls. All in all, Skype provides users the communication freedom sans a high price tag.

I don't think there's a better free alternative to video conferencing than Skype. I was first introduced to Skype back in '05 when my brother went travelling abroad and we needed a way to keep in touch. As it turns out all he needed was a WiFi connection and we were never more than two clicks away from each other.

I tried video conferencing in other software like Yahoo Messenger and it just wasn't the same, the sound was laggy and the image was jerky, this was on the same connection where Skype ran as smooth as butter a couple of minutes before. Another feature I really enjoy is desktop screen sharing. This has simplified a lot of tech house calls, now I don't have to swing by my parents house every time they need a new application installed or a piece of software configured.

There's a reason everybody says Skypeing instead of video conference.

I love Skype! I started using it a few years ago, and have been impressed with it. Since I started using it, it has gone through different changes and upgrades. All for the better, in my opinion.

There is a wide range of features that you can use while Skyping. I like the feature that allows you to have a video conference call with multiple people at the same time. I use this feature quite a bit. Another feature that I like is the ability to take a "video snapshot" while skyping.

One of the only things that I dislike about Skype is that you can't record your conversations while video chatting (or if you can, I haven't figured it out yet!). And one other thing, would be that sometimes I lose a phone call. That may have something to do with my connection, but it is annoying!

Just the IM feature of Skype is something I can't do without. It's the best IM client I've ever used and I've used most of them out there. The only thing I'd like to see improved on this feature is to be able to format my messages the way I want.

The Skype-to-Skype voice feature is very good. If both parties have broadband, it results in a nice, clear call. It has more issues with slower connections, though, with a lot of dropped calls.

I have been using Skype for a long time. I started as a personal user and am now experimenting with it for business too.

There's an incredible range of features, and I find the instant chat option is particularly useful when it comes to different time zones. Rather than being lost, a message sent will show as soon as we are both online again.

You can't argue with free calls of course and for calling non Skype uers I bought some credit time. Now I see they also offer a 'pay as you go' subscription, that may be an even better deal.

The only drawback in my experience is that sometimes I lose the entire program from my computer. It's easy to download it again, but it would be better if I didn't have to do that in the first place.

I think it’s one of the most popular chat/video conferencing applications available on various platforms like pc/tab/mobile. I use it for business purpose and it has mostly worked well. There have been slight call quality issues but not much. The chat part does work quite well.

Many people find the call charges economical but I think some of the calls are cheaper through my regular cell phone. However, the pricing for some countries is definitely very competitive. I used it on my tab when I am traveling. Overall, I am satisfied with it.

I use Skype for both personal and business. I don't see how I ever got along with out it, actually. First, I can call Skype-to-Skype anywhere in the world absolutely free. I have free long distance on my home phone but it only applies to in the country. As someone who works on the internet, I have customers and partners all over the world. Thanks to Skype, it doesn't cost me a fortune to talk to them when it's needed.

One of my favorite features of the IM part of Skype is that you can create groups. Then the group can text chat, audio conference or video conference. This is ideal for some of the coaching programs I offer.
