Default Hard Drive making a slight ticking/schreeching sound

    Hi there,

I have a latop that is quite old now, and it has as far as I know a Hitachi 80 gigabyte hard drive. When I start using the laptop it starts fine loads everything in vista, and after about 10 to 15 minutes use, the hard drive starts making a screeching or ticking type sound, it lasts for about 30 seconds then the hard drive turns off, and the screen and whatever i was doing freezes. Just before the HDD turns off, it makes a louder click sound like if you turn of the laptop whilst its still running.

Anyway one of my friends said it could be a power problem but the laptop is out of warranty so I don;t know what to do?

Do any of you guys know how to fix it?

Yes it could be the problem with your power supply. Either the capacitors on your motherboard have become weak or there is some problem with your power supply... I can also be a problem with your hard disk so try formatting it or attempt to recover the bad sectors in it, if any...
