SpyFu SEO Tools lets you research keywords and see how and what your competition do in both adwords and organic search. SpyFu is a service for web publishers, webmasters, organizations, agencies and enterprises with various plans and led by SpyFu, Inc.

SpyFu Summary

If secrets in online success are available, you sure want to know, or probably spy on, some. That is what SpyFu is all about. This tool takes the guesswork in SEO and PPC campaigns out and sets you aground running when you plan to start your own campaigns. It offers a slew of veritable data throughout the web and showcases them in front of you with a few clicks.

SpyFu offers five complementary tools: Classic gives a ton of information by just entering a keyword or domain; Kombat compares up to three sites based on their keyword use; SmartSearch allows you to choose the best and unique keywords for your campaign; Keyword Ad History checks out the history of certain keywords from different domains; and Domain Ad History shows the history of keywords in a specific domain. Using these five tools can give you so much idea and advantage on how to outdo your competitors in a certain niche.

SpyFu Features

SpyFu Classic can really do a lot for you. It gives you so much information about your niche rivals, including daily AdWords PPC budget, paid traffic versus organic traffic estimates, average position of ads against number of advertisers, subdomains, top paid keywords, PPC competitors, organic competitors, and categories. Classic lets you know these data by just launching a search using a domain or a keyword, and the resulting page will show you top PPC domains, ads, bought keywords, related keywords, and search results, among others.

SpyFu Kombat is an exciting tool to use if you are the type who learns more by comparison. It allows you to input two competing domains—three if you subscribe—and presents you a Venn diagram that shows the unique and similar keywords these domains use. It is a nice visual tool that also tells you more when you click on any area of the diagram. This diagram accompanies a graph that compares the history of organic ads, domain budget, keyword lists, and ad keywords of the entered domains.

SpyFu’s Keyword SmartSearch helps you select the right keywords for your campaign by letting you know of your competitors’ keywords and the keywords you should steer clear of. This tool utilizes semantic word relationships, PPC campaign data, and public keyword data to give you a good list of keywords related to your search. The resulting page shows you not only a long list of keywords, but also cost per click, global and local search volume, clicks per day, and minimum clicks per day.

SpyFu’s Keyword Ad History and Domain Ad History are somewhat related; the former shows you the frequency a keyword appeared in a domain’s PPC campaign, as well as the ad copy changes; the latter gives you an idea of what keywords your competitors used for good and what keywords they abandoned. These two are good tools to use if you want to know the keywords that brought your competitors to success.

SpyFu Reporting

There is nothing extraordinary about how the data are presented in the graphs, tables, and diagrams; it is the same thing that happens when you look at a page with a lot of information presented in various methods. The best thing to note is that each presentation provides so much information to bloat you, and which will probably make you say, “Aha, this is how they made it!” Generally, the tools are easy to use, but you may need to take the tour if you want to comprehend all the data that will be presented to you once a search is returned.

SpyFu Review

SpyFu is a multi-faceted tool that will really be useful if you know how to use the gleaned information in beating your competition. The three-day trial that costs $6.95 may be enough to test the program out, and you will surely find it the best if you have nothing else to compare it with.

I am a niche blogger and I monetize most of my blogs using Adsense. Anyone who works with Adsense can tell you that some keywords will bring pennies while others in the same niche, will bring dollars. Naturally, the best thing to do is to target those higher paying keywords.

Without SpyFu, I'd be lost in trying to find the best keywords and make sure there is going to be some good ads. SpyFu shows you what ads are running for specific keywords so you can tell before you even build a site that you will be able to make money with Adsense.

I only use the free SpyFu features but I'm sure the paid version is even better. That's one of the things I plan on upgrading in the coming year as I focus on really building my internet publishing business. Right now, I find it very useful for finding out which niches have good income possibilities. I know a lot of people think it's only good for finding Adsense income but I actually use it to find good affiliate opportunities. Most of the ads you find either are for an affiliate or offer and affiliate program. Rather than get paid a few cents to a couple dollars per click, I go right to the source and become an affiliate, instead. Then I place my own ads on my sites and get paid good money for each sale, instead of trickles of Adsense income.
