Since the system is an open source software and must abide under the terms of the General Public License, most version’s its codes can be distributed freely, although some custom addons must be bought separately. It is popular among many website developers and designers due to its easy operation. The software’s administrator completely controls the website and its users, with the system providing the tools for the job. The user can also regulate the website’s public and members’ areas, controlling which contents to view and which contents to hide or not publish.

PHP Nuke Features

Online marketing is also made possible and easy by PHP Nuke, enabling the user to advertise products and services through the website using special modules. Built in themes, and other add-ons enhance the system and offer a wide selection that suit many user’s tastes. The system also provides a large community of users who offer many third party themes, add-ons, and many other applications which makes the whole CMS much more attractive. The software package uses the English language by default, although this can be adjusted (PHP Nuke uses more than 20 languages). The user can also add the preferred language in the system by programming it. Miscellaneous features include changeable home module, CSS usability, variable PHP parameters, and many others.

PHP Nuke is relatively easy to learn and to operate. For the user’s part, simple programming fundamentals are needed in order to change and modify the software and maximize its use. Basic requirements to use the software include a computer with net connectivity, a MySQL database server, and an Apache server that is compatible with the PHP version 4.X. PHP Nuke can be run using operating systems like Linux, Unix, OS/2, Windows, MacOS and FreeBSD.

In any case, a comprehensive manual is readily available to learn how to use the software. Details of this manual include an introduction to the software and its history, instructions on how to install the system, instructions on how to upgrade the system, how to move the system, architecture and structure of the system, and many others.

The standard package provides a wide array of features and functions. Third party add-ons can also be integrated within the system and are available from many different authors both free and with a cost. PHP Nuke is well known for producing high performance and quality website content management systems, giving the website unique styles and stability.

A forum module is also included which enables the user to run a PHPBB forum integrated into the site itself, as well as enabling the user to switch a built in encyclopedia on or off.

PHP Nuke Software Review

The PHP Nuke CMS script is available absolutely free but other customizations and certain addons may cost. The install package comes in either .zip or .tar.gz and includes the latest security features and other supports and regular upgrades are also available free. Simple websites are easily created through the software, although the user must organize modules and other parts of the CMS to really make it custom to your own website. PHP Nuke is unique among much similar software such that it can be customized and is extremely flexible and easy to use. Aside from these, PHP Nuke offers many other features not available in other systems, and each upgraded versions feature more advanced and innovative characteristics.

PHP Nuke has a lot of nice features, but some of them were difficult to use. Configuration of it was not as intuitive as I would have liked, and sometimes things just did not work the way I expected, and I was unable to understand why. There are a lot of add-ons and modules available to make it do what one wants it to do. User management worked pretty well. There are also a lot of free games available to set up a personal arcade, as it were. We had some concerns about its security, which is why we discontinued using it, but there has been time since then and it is possible that they have shored up the security after we discontinued using the software.
